At the end of the Spanish Civil War, museums and public institutions were nourished or, in some cases, were created from the artistic concentrations carried out by the republican government starting in July 1936. Part of the works detailed in the inventories of the republican deposits are displayed today in the main museums' halls. Many others remain in the deposits. Until now, it has not been possible to rigorously trace the process of their entry. Although mostly they are works whose affiliation is known, there is still a significant number of works deposited by the heritage services established by the dictatorship's government, lacking documentation that would allow knowing their origin and, therefore, the legality of their entry and, at the same time, facilitate their proper cataloging.

This volume collects the research conducted within the framework of the IGUEMUS project. The impact of the Spanish Civil War on the configuration of museums in Catalonia. Traceability, localization, and destiny of the salvaged cultural assets (2022-2026, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. PID 2021-124518NB-I00) and proposes a reflection on the impact that the policies implemented by early Francoism in relation to the republican deposits created during the Spanish Civil War have on the current configuration of museums.
